The Minnesota History Museum just opened a new exhibit about suburban life that is called suburbia.

http://www.minnesotahistorycenter.org/exhibits/suburbia

It can highlight the difference between urban or city life.  The Eastside and St. Paul need to recognize, promote, and rebuild these amenities that make for a city life including shared neighborhood parks/recreation centers, diverse community schools, culturally infused small businesses, and diverse neighborhoods.  The city life on the Eastside maximizes the ability of individuals to build and share their talents with others, which is at the core of every vibrant community.

In light of the announcement by the St Paul Strong group about a news conference, this message about the city of St. Paul deleting about 40 percent of its email archive and curtailing backups is disturbing example of why a community driven St. Paul is needed.

Although I do not keep all of my personal emails, I actually have fairly complete personal email archive that dates back more than 15 years.  Some of the emails hold memories and others hold lessons for both myself and associates.

Considering how cheap storage space is, there should be no reason to not keep all of the emails with citizens.  Just like the proposed/planned cameras on our officers, these emails could only help with our government's accountability.

I was just made aware of Saint Paul STRONG.  It is a great example of the grassroots oriented governance that I would use as a City Council member.  It is a community-led committee working to improve an open and representative government without partisanship.  Local government should not be driven by the platforms of any party.   I wish could have expressed the ideas as eloquently as they did.

I am unable to cancel my substitute teaching job on that day and will not be able to attend.  If you can adjust your schedule, please consider coming.

Checkout the STRONG philosophy.

What: Announcement of Saint Paul STRONG
When: Wednesday October 7th, Gather at 1:30  News Conference at 2:00pm
Where: Oxford Community Center (Jimmy Lee Recreation Center & Great River Water Park), 270 Lexington Parkway North, Saint Paul, MN  55104.

The survey question for the week of 9-6-2015 prompted 17 submissions.  Half of the responses supported the public funding a soccer stadium, however people completely against or for the policy were each more than a quarter of their half.  Of course, the sample of 17 is not enough to suggest the extreme choice data means anything.

One of my goals is to have affordable internet for all Eastsiders.  This service will allow everyone to access the wealth of information available on internet and to allow them to share their talents/passions with each of us.  In addition, our school system has given each child an Ipad to complete their schoolwork, so this service would assist our future generation's success.

I ask everyone to spread the word of this important goal.  Currently, there is an organization trying to promote internet for everyone in St. Paul.

Also, PCs for People can help with affordable computer equipment.

Thanks,
Ed

The mayor's proposed 2016 budget includes an interesting potential for Payne Ave and Arcade St.  There may be parking meters added to our streets to encourage turnover in our future.
The current level of economic development on Payne Avenue (just blooming with some wonderful new restaurants) or Arcade Street would probably be hindered with the installation of meters.  The couple of 100 grand is not worth it.

Ed Davis, Candidate for Ward 6 City Council will be hanging out at the picnic tables outside of the Lake Phalen Pavilion this Sunday (8-30) at 7 PM until dusk to meet Eastsiders and answer any questions.  See you there!
